Astounding Tales — Issue Three — Front & Back Cover

The issue is called Phase : Transition.

That is a systems term. It describes the moment when a thing stops being what it was and is not yet what it will become. Not a clean break. Not a transformation. The unstable interval between two stable states, where neither the old rules nor the new ones apply, and something that was hidden inside the structure finally has room to move.

I want a cover that lives in that interval. Not before. Not after. The exact moment of the phase. Something that is visibly two things at once and cannot stay that way — not a hybrid that has found its balance, but a surface under active pressure, caught mid-change, with the outcome still unresolved.

I am not going to tell you what that looks like. Issue One asked what survives transmission. Issue Two asked what is left when the answer comes back empty. Issue Three asks what happens to the container when the thing inside it changes state. The cover has to answer that question in whatever visual language is yours.

The person who paints this issue is the loudest voice in the room. That has not changed. What has changed is the pressure inside the walls.

Show me the moment just before something becomes something else, and what it costs the surface holding it.
